KARACHI, Dec 24: President Asif Ali Zardari and his son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, flew into the metropolis on Wednesday from different directions as the Pakistan People’s Party made arrangements for the first death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto. Both the leaders, as well as most of the other party leaders, are to attend the anniversary programmes in Garhi Khuda Bukhsh on Saturday.

Though confirming their arrival in the city, the Bilawal House did not give any details of their schedules for security reasons.

President Zardari flew in from Hyderabad where he addressed a “parents’ day” function at the Petaro Cadet College. He vowed to defend the country’s honour and boundaries at all costs.

“As the country is passing through defining moments, there will be no compromise on the independence and sovereignty of the country… cadets should be ready to shoulder the huge responsibility of defending the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, PPP co-chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who recently received the UN human rights award conferred on his mother, Benazir Bhutto, posthumously in recognition of her fight against dictatorship and her long struggle for human rights and crusade against terrorism, flew in from London to participate in the anniversary programmes.

Other members of Ms Bhutto’s family are also reaching Garhi Khuda Bukhsh where PPP leadership is busy to make the occasion a memorable event. Tribute will be paid to her life and services by hundreds of her admirers converging on her grave to participate in the Dec 27 event.
