LAHORE, Dec 24: India is looking for a ‘scapegoat’ to calm down the anger of its people, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said here on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters at the Allama Iqbal Medical College, he said the people in India were very angry at the failure of their law-enforcement agencies to prevent the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

The Indian government, he said, was under immense pressure and needed a scapegoat.

The prime minister said that according to his assessment “there will be no war”. “We are a responsible country and are assessing the situation very closely.” He declared that the nation was united and ready to face any ‘misadventure’.

Mr Gilani said that Pakistan was against terrorism on any soil.

“We are in contact with other countries and if someone has evidence it should share with us and the government will present it before the people of Pakistan,” the prime minister said.
