KARACHI, Dec 26: A middle-aged man was shot dead in a restaurant in Orangi Town on Friday.

Area police said that Syed Ameen, 43, was at an area restaurant in MPR Colony when armed men on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire on him before fleeing.

“He received a couple of bullets and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital,” said an official at the Orangi Town police station. However, doctors pronounced the victim dead on arrival at the hospital.

The police had collected a few shell casings from the site, which suggested that a TT pistol was used to kill Syed Ameen, the area police said, suspecting some personal enmity behind the murder. They said he was a labourer and until a few months back he worked as a taxi driver.

The victim, who originally hailed from Mansehra, had been sharing residence with his cousin, Gul Farhang, for quite sometime, they said, adding that the victim’s family had been promptly informed about the incident.

The police said, “We have registered a murder case (FIR No 416/200) under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified men and hope to get some clue about his personal enmity once his heirs arrive to receive the body.”

Meanwhile, an Afghan national was found dead in a flat in Sohrab Goth area.

Area police said that the 70-year-old man, who was later identified as Mureed Bashi, was found dead in a flat in Al Asif Square. Suspected to be killed a week ago, the man had been living alone in the flat for more than six months, the police said.

“He was an Afghan national and the few people in the building who knew him assisted us to determine his identity,” said an official of the Sohrab Goth police station.

The police had not registered the case till late. The official said, “We have learnt that the victim had some relatives in the city and have been waiting for them before lodging any FIR.”

Suicide

A father of two boys committed suicide in a bedroom of his house in Baldia Town.

While his relatives blamed poverty for his death, area police said that the man was earning well. They added that he was mentally disturbed.

Mominabad police said the family of 41-year-old Dilawar reported that they found him dead inside his room after hearing a gunshot. The police reached the spot and seized a licensed TT pistol, owned by the deceased.

Dilawar was a junk dealer and earned good income to run the house, the police said. “We have learnt through the area people that he was mentally upset for the last several months and was often noted with abnormal behaviour,” they added
