KARACHI, Dec 27: Consideration and approval of amendments in the constitution of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) figures in the 10-point agenda of the general council meeting of the body which meets at Lahore’s Wapda Sports Complex on Jan 17.

According to the agenda released by the POA secretary Abdul Khaliq Khan, the meeting, among other matters, will review Pakistan’s performance at the Beijing Olympic Games, 3rd Commonwealth Youth Games held in Pune, India, and the inaugural Asian Beach Games held in Bali, Indonesia, besides giving its formal approval for participation in five international events in 2009.

The events that the POA has recommended are the inaugural Asian Martial Arts Games, Bangkok; first Asian Youth Games, Singapore; second Islamic Solidarity Games, Iran; third Asian Indoor Games, Hanoi, Vietnam and 11th South Asian Games, Dhaka.

The meeting will also discuss preparatory arrangements made by the NWFP Olympic Association for holding the 31st National Games in Peshawar from Nov 16 to 21, 2009.

Besides confirming the minutes of the last general council meeting held in Lahore on Aug 30, the meeting will also endorse secretary’s report for 2008, approve audited accounts and estimated budget of the POA for 2009-10.
