ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: Five accused arrested in connection with the theft of arms, seized during operation at Lal Masjid, from Aabpara police station were given in the police custody for a two-day physical remand here on Saturday.

The accused, including a constable of the Islamabad police, an arm dealer and a taxi driver, were produced in the court of area magistrate for getting the remand.

The police said that they were confident that the remaining stolen arms would be recovered soon on basis of information given by the accused. The police said they would also try to seek remand of the accused for some more days.

The accused were produced in the court of Central Special Judge Rawalpindi.

They have been charged under various sections, including the Section PPC 409 - criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent.

One of the accused was arrested on Thursday night during raid on a house near Bari Imam. Later, the police arrested four other persons on his information from different areas.

The theft of the arms came to light on December 22. The incident resulted in transfer of two senior police officials, later one of them reinstated, and registration of a case against 10 police officials.

The stolen weapons include Kalashnikovs, light and heavy machine guns, rocket launcher, ant-tank mines, rifles, repeaters, pistols, wireless sets and bullets.
