KARACHI, Jan 6: The Central Police Office (CPO) has announced the traffic arrangements in the city for Wednesday and Thursday (9th and 10th Muharram) to facilitate processions to be taken out in connection with Ashura.

Programme

According to a statement issued by the CPO office, on Wednesday, an “Alam” procession would be taken out from the Markazi Imambargah, Liaquatabad which will emerge on Martin Road and proceed up to Nishtar Park, where a Majlis will be held. At about 1200 hours, the procession will be taken out from Nishtar Park and proceed up to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar via the following routes:

Nishtar Park, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis, Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan, M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street and Preedy Street, M.A Jinnah Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee Road, Hussanian Iranian Imambargah.

On Thursday, a Majlis will be held at Nishtar Park from 7:30am to 9am and after the Majlis, a procession will be taken out via the above-mentioned route to reach Hussanian Iranian Imambargah.

As soon as the procession will start from Nishtar Park, all vehicular traffic coming from city side will be diverted to Soldier Bazaar Road from the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road and Dawood Pota Road.

All traffic on Soldier Bazaar Road from its junction with Dawood Pota Road up to the intersection of Khan Bahadur Naqi Mohammad Khan Road will follow one way.

All vehicles coming from Nazimabad side will be diverted to Nishtar Road towards Zoological Garden.

The traffic coming from Liaquatabad side will be diverted onto Martin Road towards jail side. These vehicles will, however, be allowed to proceed up to jail intersection and then proceed via Jamshed Road, Dada Bhoy Naurorji Road, Kashmir Road, Shahrah-i-Quaideen, Sharea Faisal up to Gora Qabrastan and then via Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Dawood Pota Road and Preedy Street. When the head of the procession will reach the junction of M. A. Jinnah Road/Mansfield Street, the traffic will proceed straight for EME Workshop, Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Maulana Deen Mohammad Wafai Road (Stratchen Road), Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road and M.A. Jinnah Road till the situation permits when the traffic will be diverted to Dada Bhoy Naurorji Road and Kashmir Road from its junction with New M.A. Jinnah Road/link road behind Mazar Quaid-i-Azam.

All vehicles approaching from Super Highway side shall be diverted from Al-Azam Square towards Nazimabad Chowrangi and will proceed to Estate Avenue Road and Shershah, Mauripur Road. For return journey, the vehicles will adopt the same route.

All buses approaching from National Highway side will proceed via Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Mohammad Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No.10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No.2, Habib Bank, Manghopir Road, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah and Mauripur Road. For return journey, vehicles will adopt the same route.

Cars will not be permitted to proceed towards the route of the procession from Guru Mandir intersection. They will be diverted to Bahadur Yar Jang Road and again on Khan Bahadur Naqi Mohammad Khan Road. Under no circumstances will vehicles be allowed to proceed along Soldier Bazaar Road from the junction of Khan Bahadur Naqi Mohammad Khan Road/Bahadur Yar Jang Road.

Cars coming for the Quaid-i-Azam mausoleum side along M.A. Jinnah Road will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang Road.

No vehicular traffic will be allowed to proceed towards Old Exhibition under any circumstances.

Vehicular traffic approaching Numaish via Shahrah-i-Quaideen (except those of participants of the procession) will not be allowed to proceed from the roundabout of Shahrah-i-Quaideen/Lines Area to proceed towards M. A. Jinnah Raod.

No bus, minibus or truck will be permitted to proceed beyond this roundabout towards Numaish.

The traffic going towards Saddar and other localities will not be permitted to proceed towards Empress Market from the junctions: Preedy Street-Sarmad Road, Preedy Street-M.A. Jinnah Road, Shahrah-i-Liaquat-Court Road and Shahrah-i-Liaquat-Mohammad Bin Qasim Road when the head of the procession will reach near the crossing of M.A. Jinnah Road-Mansfield Street.

Similarly, all vehicular traffic proceeding towards Saddar via M.A. Jinnah Road side shall not be permitted to proceed from its junction with Preedy Street and Aga Khan Road.

Sunni procession

The traffic coming from Keamari side will be terminated at Ghas Bunder Railway Quarters and as soon as the head of the Sunni procession reaches the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/Donnelly Quarters, Ghas Bunder and M.A. Jinnah Road. All buses coming from West Wharf side and Mauripur Road side will terminate at the junction of Aga Khan Road/Eduljee Dinshaw Road. The traffic from West Wharf and Mauripur Road sides will, however, be permitted to proceed via Aga Khan Road/G. Allana Road, till the situation so permits.

All traffic coming from Keamari and Mauripur Road from the side of M.T. Khan Road will travel via Jinnah Bridge till the time head of the procession reaches the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/Donnelly Road and thereafter, all the traffic will be suspended from the junction of M.T. Khan Road/Jinnah Bridge.

Tazia procession

On the night between 9th and 10th Muharram, a Tazia procession will be taken out throughout the city. The following traffic arrangements will be made.

All buses approaching Saddar from Jamshed Road side will proceed straight to M.A. Jinnah road and will be permitted to come on Mansfield Street after 2200 hours.

Similarly, buses coming form city side on Shahrah-i-Liaquat and bound for other areas via Empress Market will be diverted to Mohammad Bin Qasim Road/M.A. Jinnah Road. The buses bound for Malir and Sharea Faisal will be diverted to Court Road, Maulana Deen Mohammad Wafai Road, Abdullah Haroon Road and Sharea Faisal.

All buses from Korangi side bound for Saddar will be diverted back from the junction of Mansfield Street/Rafiqui Shaheed Road/Sarwar Shaheed Road (Lucky Star).

The areas around Preedy Street, M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street and Shahrah-i-Iraq will remain closed to all vehicles by 2000 hours (or earlier if needed). Residents of the areas will, however, be allowed to move in and out.

All buses bound for Tower from Lea Market and beyond will use the following route: Aga Khan Road Dalumai Chela Ram Road, Mir Mohammad Baloch Road and Shidi Village Road.

The stretch of the road between the junction of Nawab Mahabat Khanjee Road, Shidi Village Road, Aga Khan Road and Dalumel Cheala Ram Road will be out of bounds to all public transport.

No vehicles will be permitted to be parked along the route of processions.—PPI
