BADIN, Jan 10: The Sindh National Front leaders has termed situation in the country explosive and warned if the government did not go for midterm elections the situation would further aggravate.

The local SNF leaders, including Mohammad Ayoub Shar, Shamshad Kehkashan Bhurgari and Hamid Ali Khan said at a press conference here on Saturday that people were convinced now that the government was not capable of doing anything for their welfare and the only right course for the country was to hold fresh elections under the supervision of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry.

They said that the present government had lost credibility and failed on all fronts.

Mr Shar termed conferring Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam on Richard Boucher a slap on the face of Pakistanis and severely criticised the government for what he called media trial of Mumtaz Ali Bhutto. He said that he had sent an application to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and other authorities concerned, expressing his fear about danger to Mumtaz Bhutto’s life.

He denied attack on Awami Awaz office and insisted that the party workers had gone there to lodge a peaceful protest and no untoward incident took place there.

Mumtaz Bhutto’s involvement was aimed at pressurising him to withdraw demand for bringing the killers of Benazir Bhutto to justice. The government was hatching a conspiracy to clear purge Bhuttos who were calling for revenge, he said.

He said that a protest campaign would be launched immediately after hearing of Mumtaz Bhutto’s case on Jan 12 and the party chief would visit every town of the country -- to clarify his position.
