Schoolteachers seek salary

Published January 11, 2009

MIRPURKHAS, Jan 10: Dozens of primary school teachers who were recruited on merit in closed schools in the rural areas staged a protest demonstration under the banner of IBA teachers action committee outside the local press club here on Saturday against non-payment of salary for four months.

The protesters blocked Mirpurkhas-Hyderabad road for one hour. They told journalists that they were deprived of their four months salary while they were recruited as primary teachers after clearing IBA test and securing 60 per cent marks.

They said that they were bearing additional travelling expenses as they were going to school, situated in far-flung areas while they belonged to middle class. They said that they are faced with financial crisis owing to non-payment of salaries. They demanded of the government to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure payment of their salary.
