MINGORA, Jan 10: Suspected militants attacked hujra of former federal minister and Awami National Party’s central leader Afzal Khan Lala in Drushkhela area of Matta tehsil on Saturday.

However, the assailants escaped after stiff resistance put up by the ANP leader’s security guards and other party workers. No casualty was reported in the firing.

Security forces imposed an indefinite curfew in the area and started a search operation. Three suspects were arrested in the operation.

SCHOOL TORCHED: A girls’ primary school was set on fire by some people in Sambat Cham area of Matta tehsil.The furniture and record of the school were reduced to ashes. The number of schools destroyed or torched has climbed to 168, with 104 of these meant for girls and 54 for boys.

LASHED: Two drug addicts were publicly administered lashes at the College Chowk in Matta on Friday.

The accused were arrested by the Taliban and were reportedly found guilty by a so-called Sharia court.

The Taliban have been asserting that people found involved in unethical or un-Islamic activities would be dealt with in accordance with the so-called Sharia laws.
