Imtiaz seizes chess title

KARACHI, Jan 19: Imtiaz Ahmed clinched the 30th Friendship House chess championship when he beat Haseeb Ahmed on a tie-break at the Russian Cultural Centre on Sunday evening.

Imtiaz also shocked Asad Rampuri, and on board one Riasat Ali Nazim held Haseeb Ahmed who had a half-point lead over other players.

Both Imtiaz and Haseeb tied for the first place but Imtiaz won the tie-break having 33 points against his opponent’s 29.

Final standings:

1. Imtiaz Ahmed –– 6 points

2. Haseeb Ahmed –– 6 points

3. Mohammad Waqar –– 5 points

4. Faraz Salim –– 5 points

5. Akhter Hussain –– 5 points.
