Fata create upset in U-21 soccer

LAHORE, Jan 23: Afghan FC outclassed Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) 5-1 and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) triumphed against Balochistan in the 3rd National Under-21 Championship at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad on Friday.

Afghan FC and Fata have joined NWFP, Islamabad, Sindh and holders Wohaib FC in the final eight.

The Group ‘D’ encounter between Afghan FC and AJK saw international Jadeed Khan and Mehmood Khan earning a brace to down the opposition.

Afghan FC occupied superiority within 10 minutes with two goals. Jadeed opened the scoring in the 8th minute and added another in the 83rd minute. Striker Mehmood Khan slammed twice in the 10th and 88th minutes while Dawood Khan rounded off the tally with a 35th minute goal. AJK earned an honour-saving goal through midfielder Usman Shah in the 73rd min. In Group ‘C’, Balochistan suffered a sensational 0-1 defeat at the hands of minnows Fata. The match winning goal was scored by Owais Sheikh in the 46th minute.
