Bank robbed of Rs10m

HYDERABAD, Jan 26: Four bandits waylaid a van carrying cash for a private bank between Naseer Wah regulator and bypass near Tando Allahyar town on Monday and made away with Rs10 million cash.

Reports said that the bandits fired on the UBL van to force it to stop near the bypass, injuring a guard, Saleem Baloch. The van’s driver, a bank officer and another guard remained unhurt.

The vehicle was carrying the amount to Tando Allahyar branch of the UBL from Mirpurkhas. The bandits fled with the cash in a getaway car, which they left near Mohib Mirjat village at Tando Adam road and escaped in another car. The getaway car was recovered by police.

DIG Sanaullah Abbasi has formed four police teams headed by DPO of Tando Allahyar, Altaf Leghari, to nab the bandits and recover the looted cash.

CUSTOMS DAY: The Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad, on Monday observed the International Customs Day whose theme of the year was “custom and the environment: protecting our natural heritage”.

The Customs House was decorated on the eve of the day and the day commenced with hoisting of national flag and custom’s flag on the building.

A workshop was also organised to highlight the role of customs in combating offences against environment such as illegal trade in environmentally sensitive commodities.

SBBWS: The general secretary of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Welfare Society, Hyderabad, Sagheer Abbas Kashmiri, has disassociated himself along with 200 supporters from the society.

He said at a news conference here on Monday that the basic objective of the society was to serve the poor and provide them justice at grass root level.

But some people were using the society to further their own personal ends, which he said, had defamed the organisation.

He said that he was a diehard PPP worker and would remain faithful to the party.

CONDOLENCE: Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has expressed profound sorrow and grief on the sad demise of noted historian, archaeologist and anthropologist, Prof Dr Ahmed Hassan Dani. He said in a message that Dr Dani was a scholar of international repute.
