KARACHI, Feb 2: Nine ships carrying steel scrap, chemicals and to load ethanol are due to arrive at the outer anchorage on Tuesday, according to KPT sources.

Berthing activity at the wharves was brisk where nine ships were berthed during the last two days. They are: Caribbean Carrier-1, Alpha to load cement, Mare Thracium, to unload and load containers, and Johar and Alam Bitra, both oil tankers.

They were followed by Iron Butterfly, Industrial Dream, Wajdi Arab, and Muroto, with general cargo and general commodities.

Sailing was also active as over a dozen ships departed during the last two days under the lead of APL Balboa, Y.M. Inventive, Thuringia Express, Martha Russ, Ainafti, Noor-e-Medina, Adriatic Arrow, Santana, and Lalazar.

Others to follow them, included Chemroad Mega, Chemstar Brave, Iron Butterfly, Industrial Dream, Wajdi Arab and Bow Prima, while Mare Thracium, Alm Bitara, Caribbean Carrier-1, APL Brisbane, Sinar Bintan, Muroto, Johar and Sari are due to sail out on Tuesday.

A total tonnage of 0.142m tons comprising 70,288 tons of export cargo and 71,338 tons of import tonnage was handled during the last two days.

The following ships are due on Tuesday: Star Dream, Sun Geranium, with chemicals, Oriental Rose, to load ethanol, APL Sokhna, Cape Negro, Northern Harmony, and X-Press Khyber, with containers, Shangor, with 36,900 tons of steel scrap and Pheapan, with general cargo.

Port Qasim

KARACHI, Feb 2: Shipping activity remained brisk at the port where five ships carrying containers, palm oil, furnace oil and LPG were allotted berths at QICT, MPT, Fotco oil terminal and Progas terminal, respectively, during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, three more ships with containers and furnace oil arrived at the outer anchorage during the report period.

Berth occupancy was recorded at 80 per cent at the port where a total of eight ships occupied berths to load, offload containers, cement, wheat, palm oil, furnace oil and LPG, respectively, during the report period.

A cargo volume of 45,660 tons comprising 38,208 tons imports and 7,281 tons exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 661 Teus was handled at the port during last 24 hours.

A total of five ships sailed out to sea during the same period while two more ship were expected to sail later.—APP
