Tevez’s car seized by police

MANCHESTER, Feb 7: Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez had his luxury car seized by police because he does not have a British driver’s license.

Officers stopped the 25-year-old Argentina international in Manchester on Friday because they suspected the windows on his Bentley Continental GT Speed were too dark.

“They were tested and found to be too dark so a prohibition notice was issued to the driver,” Greater Manchester Police said Saturday. “When asked to provide his documentation, it was discovered the driver did not have a full UK driving license and was advised to arrange removal of the car. As he could not arrange this, the car was removed.”

The maximum penalty for driving without a valid license is a 1,000-pound ($1,480; euro1,143) fine and a six-point penalty.

Nick Freeman, a lawyer who has helped footballers avoid driving convictions, said foreign players must take a British driving test.

“They reside full-time in the UK and mistakenly believe –– or are advised –– that they are entitled to drive legally under their foreign driving licenses.”
