KARACHI, Feb 11: Five people, including the 40-year-old wife of the director-general of the Malir Development Authority, were killed on Wednesday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, witnesses and police said.

The New Town police said that Rehana Kohati, the second wife of MDA DG Ameer Zada Kohati, was shot dead by her nephew in her fourth-floor apartment near Hasan Square in Block 14 of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

They said the woman was fatally wounded and she died on her way to the Aga Khan University Hospital.

Hospital sources said the victim was shot a single bullet to the chest and it went through her upper torso.

The police said the suspect, Zeeshan alias Shani, fled the scene after fatally wounding the woman at around 7.30pm.

The police said the motive behind the murder could not immediately be ascertained. However, sources said that a monetary dispute was behind the killing.

They said the suspect was the son of the victim’s sister and he had been living with his aunt for the past many years.

They said that no case was registered till late night.

Man shot dead

The Khokhrapar police said that a 35-year-old man was killed and his five brothers and three others were wounded in a firing incident in Chaman Colony.

The area SHO, Inspector Shabbir Mustafai, told Dawn that Abdul Aziz, son of Somaar Khaskheli, a resident of Somaar Gandani Goth in Gadap Town, was riding his motorbike when he hit a young boy.

He said that Aziz left the scene after being beaten up by relatives of the injured boy.

The SHO said that later Aziz came back along with his associates, who included his five brothers, to the scene where they were fired upon.

As a result, he said, Aziz died on the spot and his five brothers – Yasin, Iqbal, Rajab, Rafique and Yar Mohammed – and Abu Bakar, Waheed and Naveed received bullet wounds. The SHO said the attackers fled the scene.

He said no FIR was registered till late in the night as the victim’s family was busy in the funeral. No one was arrested in the case.

Body found

The body of a seven-year-old boy, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found at a desolate place near Khayaban-i-Ittehad in the Gizri police limits. The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where the victim boy was identified as Nazuk Ali, son of Sadiq Ali, a resident of Qayyumabad.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that blood was oozing from the victim’s mouth and nose.

They suspected that the boy was also criminally assaulted.

The Gizri police said the victim had been missing since Tuesday evening.

Shot dead

A 40-year-old man was found shot dead near Decent Plaza in Block 6 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section said the victim, clad in a tracksuit and jogging shoes, received two bullets to the head from point-blank range as both bullets went through the skull. The police said the victim was identified as Shahid Hussain Bukhari.

They said no further details of the victim were available as the police were still trying to locate his relatives.

Prayer leader shot dead

A 42-year-old man was shot dead late in the night in Memon Goth.

The police said the victim, Maulana Salim Jokhio, was sitting in a shop when at around 9pm two attackers with their faces muffled came there and opened fire at him.

They said the victim, father of three, was a prayer leader in the mosque in the locality.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim was shot two bullets to the chest from a very close range.

Area SHO, Rao Khalid, said that the murder was the result of a personal enmity.
