KARACHI, Feb 15: Four people, including a couple, were killed on Sunday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said.

The Darakhshan police said that a 27-year-old man and his 35-year-old wife were shot dead at their apartment in Khayaban-i-Badar in the small hours.

They said that the couple, Bilal Ahmed and Ghazal Bilal, was killed allegedly by their neighbour’s cousin, Umer, who fled.

The police took the suspect’s cousin, Bisma Zehra, 26, into custody for questioning.

The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the woman received a bullet in her abdomen, and her husband to his head.

The police said that a case (FIR97/2009) against the suspect was registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of one of the victims’ neighbours, Shahzad Ahmed.

They said that Bilal, who hailed from Faisalabad, was in the garments business.

Meanwhile, sources privy to the investigation said that the woman was a dancer and her parents lived in Malir. They said that it was yet to be ascertained whether the couple were husband and wife.

Gangster found shot dead

A 26-year-old man was shot dead in a neighbourhood of mafia-infested Lyari.

The Baghdadi police said that a police party was patrolling the locality when they heard gun shots at around 8:45am. They said that the policemen reached the spot where armed gangsters fled amid heavy gunfire.

The police said that a man was found shot dead near Qadir Hotel and his body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Hospital sources said that the victim sustained multiple bullet wounds in his upper torso.

The victim was identified as Gul Mohammed, son of Jan Mohammed, alias Fauji.

The police said that the victim was a member of the Ghaffar Zikri group.

They said that the victim earlier lived in Baghdadi and he recently shifted to Baldia Town.

The police registered a murder case against unknown culprits under Sections 302 and 34 of the PPC on behalf of the state. Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man was found shot dead near Jhatpat Market in Chakiwara.

The victim was identified as Anis Baloch, son of Qasim Baloch, a resident of Rangiwara at Mullah Musa Road.

The police said that the victim’s family took away the body.

They said that a case (FIR41/2009) was registered against unknown culprits under Sections 302 and 34 of the PPC on behalf of the state as the victim’s relative refused to lodge an FIR.—Staff Reporter
