HYDERABAD, Feb 17: The Paramedical Staff Association has threatened to stage hunger strike at the mausoleum of Benazir Bhutto on March 5 if the problems of paramedics serving in government hospitals are not solved by then.

On the call of the Sindh chapter of the association, its local members staged a rally from Liaquat University Hospital’s city branch to the press club.

Speaking on the occasion, association leaders Nazeer Ahmed Jatoi, Munawar Ali Pitafi, Arshad Arain and others called on the Sindh health department to accept their demands, including implementation of job quota for the sons of paramedics, upgradation of their service structure and adjustment of diploma-holder paramedics at senior posts.

They warned that if the demands were not accepted by March 4, thousands of paramedics would observe hunger strike at the mausoleum of Benazir Bhutto on March 5.

TRAINING: The Sindh Irrigation Department in collaboration with the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology on Tuesday began a training course for unemployed youth under the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP). Some 100 youths are to get training in four months’ time.
