LONDON: British authorities granted dying reality television star Jade Goody her wedding wish on Friday, allowing her husband-to-be to spend the night with her after they marry this weekend.

The justice ministry said it will relax curfew rules on her fiance Jack Tweed, just released from prison, so that the couple can be together on Sunday night after their nuptials.

“We are absolutely thrilled. It will be the dream finish to her dream day, and it makes so much difference,” said Max Clifford, publicist for the British star who sparked a racism row with India two years ago. “Our heartfelt thanks from Jade and from Jack for allowing him to stay the evening in these very special circumstances,” he added.

Goody announced she would marry 21-year-old Tweed shortly after doctors told her earlier this month that her cervical cancer had spread, and that she only had months to live.

Clifford has defended Goody’s right to make money from her situation, including selling media rights to cover the wedding, to help her two children after she dies.

Justice Secretary Jack Straw said Tweed will be able to stay with Goody until Monday, instead of having to be home by 7pm on Sunday in line with conditions imposed after his release from jail.

A ministry spokesman said Straw “has enormous sympathy for Jade Goody and her family at this time. She is showing extraordinary courage and his thoughts are with her and her family”.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who paid tribute to Goody’s courage earlier this week, voiced sympathy for her again Friday, saying: “I think everybody is sad at the tragedy that’s befallen Jade Goody. —AFP
