PESHAWAR, Feb 23: The Awami National Party has sought help of the United Nations, United Arab Emirate and other international relief bodies in the reconstruction of infrastructure in Swat district.
The provincial government was unable to fully pay for the reconstruction of schools and other government buildings in Swat district and the UN, UAE and other relief bodies should play their due role in the rehabilitation process, said a statement issued by ANP provincial secretary information Arbab Tahir Khan from Bacha Khan Markaz on Monday.
Besides educational institutes, hospitals, bridges, roads and mosques had been destroyed and their reconstruction required massive funds and human resources, he said.
He added the international community must take measures to restore health and education facilities in Swat.
He said that after the joint declaration by government and Tehrik Nifaz-i-Shariat-i-Muhammadi (TNSM) to enforce Sharia-based judicial system in Malakand Division, situation in volatile Swat district was improving and people displaced by the conflict were returning to their homes.
“We have lost 2.7 million Pakhtuns and cannot afford more killings and damages,” he said. He added that assistance by the international community was desperately needed.
