PESHAWAR, Sept 10: The police are yet to get concrete information about the kidnappers of Vice-Chancellor of Islamia College University Professor Ajmal Khan as the sole detained accused was handed over to the Crime Investigation Department for further investigation, source said.

An official said that several suspected sites and hideouts in the Khyber Agency had been raided where dozens of accused had also been arrested but no solid information could be found in this regard.

The detained accused, who identified himself as Yousuf resident of Pathan Colony, Khairbad, had been arrested on the same day from Karkhano Market after kidnapping of the VC and the police were hopeful about getting important information from him, but failed to do so.

The VC had been picked by kidnappers when he left for office at Professors Colony adjacent to Agriculture University on Sept 7.

The official said that residence of a tribal elder at Jamrud had also been raided on basis of suspension but no success could be achieved so far, saying that intelligence service in the tribal areas had been directed to expedite the efforts for early recovery of the educationist.

He said that during the raids some other kidnapped people had been recovered who had been missing for the last several days. He expressed the hope that the CID police might succeed in getting important information from the detained accused within the next couple of days.
