RAWALPINDI, Oct 27: The Punjab government on Wednesday directed all district coordination officers (DCOs) to launch campaigns to collect winter-related relief items for the flood-hit people.

A notification issued on Wednesday said government organisations, civic authorities and autonomous bodies should set up points for collecting blankets, sweaters and other winter-related relief items for the flood victims.

The campaign will start on November 1 and continue throughout the month. The heads of schools and colleges have also been asked to collect winter-related items while the town municipal administrations would set up along roads and in markets for collecting donations.

Executive District Officer Revenue Rawalpindi Zubair Khan told Dawn that thousands of flood victims were in dire need of warm clothing during the cold season, adding all government organisations in the district had been informed to launch the campaign.

He said Director General Relief Punjab Khalid Sherdil would supervise the overall relief campaign.—Our Reporter
