KASUR, Dec 11: A tannery owner found his 11-year-old kidnapped son after paying a Rs1 million ransom near a shrine on Ganda Singhwala Road on Saturday.

Some policemen in civvies accompanied the man at the time of payment of ransom but they did not intervene, allegedly for the safety of the boy.

Ahsan, son of Usman Saleem, went missing on Thursday. An anonymous caller informed Saleem that his son had been kidnapped and that he should arrange Rs1 million for his recovery.

The caller also threatened the tannery owner with dire consequences if he informed the police.

Saleem, however, informed the police after arranging the ransom. He and some plainclothes policemen went to the designated place near Kaisar Gar village on Ganda Singhwala Road and placed the amount at the fixed point.

The kidnappers informed Saleem that his son had been freed and he was present near Darbar Kamal Chisti in the vicinity.

When Saleem rushed to the shrine, he did not find his son. The kidnappers then informed Saleem that his son was present where he had placed the money. Saleem rushed back and found his son while the kidnappers had fled after collecting the money.

The policemen in civvies remained at a safer distance but they did not take any action, allegedly for the safety of the boy.

SHO Mian Moazam said the police had traced the kidnappers and were conducting raids to arrest them. CASE:
