PESHAWAR: Wapda and Army advanced to next stage of the hockey event of the 31st National Games after securing victories against their respective rivals at the Abbottabad Hockey Stadium on Monday.

Wapda thumped Navy 6-0 while Army outclassed Punjab 2-0. The match between Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) and PAF was tied 3-3.

Penalty corner specialist and world’s top goal scorer Sohail Abbas created another record, scoring six consecutive times on penalty corners against Navy. Abbas scored his first goal in the 3rd minute, followed by strikes in the 30th, 34th, 40th, 66th, 62nd and 69th minute.

In the second match Army dominated proceedings and scored a comfortable win over Punjab. Army took the lead through Kashif’s field goal while Pakistan international Muhammad Imran, sounded the board with his forceful hit to make the score 2-0.

In the third match KP and PAF played an excting 3-3 draw. Jamil Bostan scored two goals on field attempts while full-back Ihsan scored a goal on penalty corner for KP while PAF’s goals came through Imran Jaga, who scored two goals on penalty corners, and Mushtaq.
