KARACHI: Wapda will face Army and PAF will take on Navy in the semifinals of the football event of 31st National Games.

PAF twice came from behind to hold national title holders Wapda 2-2 at Jinnah Stadium, Quaid-e-Azam Sports Complex, Islamabad. It was a particularly heartening result for PAF as Wapda dominated much of the game and most importantly it was enough for them to secure a berth in the semis.

Pakistan Premier Football League 2010 top scorer Arif Mehmood put Wapda in front with an 18th minute strike but Muhammad Mujahid equalized (59th) in the second half with a carefully guided strike past keeper Abdul Aziz.

Tauseef Ahmed, who went to China for 16th Asian Games, restored Wapda’s advantage with a brilliant 64th minute strike. However, PAF came back strongly with Mujahid again the scorer in the 82nd minute.

In the other game of the day, five-times National Games gold medallist Army clinched Group-A top top spot by beating Navy 1-0. Front runner Shakil Yousof netted the all important goal in the 18th minute.

The two semi-finals will be played on Tuesday while the final will be played on Wednesday after the bronze medal match.

The final of the event will be played on Wednesday after the bronze medal match at Jinnah Stadium earlier.
