
PESHAWAR: Wapda showed supremacy in the men’s judo event when they won three gold medals in five contests on the opening day of the men’s judo event in the 31st National Games at Lala Rafique Sports Arena on Wednesday.
Pakistan Army and Railways won one gold medal each.
The President of the Pakistan Olympic Association Lt. Gen. (Retd) Arif Hassan was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the event. Organizing Secretary of the 31st National Games Zulfiqar Butt, Secretary Pakistan Judo Federation Masood Ahmad and President Col. Rana Shujah and a large number of players, officials and spectators were also present.
In the 50kg category, Muhammad Sadiq won the gold medal, followed by Muhammad Aqib of Punjab and Muhammad Saleem and Janzaib won bronze medals.
In the open weight category, Ghazanfar Ali of Wapda won a gold medal, Muhammad Salim of Police bagged a silver medal with Yasir of Railways and Said Javed of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa winning the bronze medal.
In the 56kg category, Gulzar of Railways won a gold medal by shocking Army. Mudassir of Army got a silver medal while Ghulam Farid of HEC and Abdul Jabbar of Police won bronze medals.
In the 60kg category, Zafar of Army won a gold medal, followed by Sargil of Police who won a silver medal with Riaz of PAF and Muhammad Asif of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa winning bronze medals respectively.
In the 66kg category, Ayatullah of Wapda grabbed a gold medal against Waheed Uddin of HEC in a tough battle. Yasir of Army and Muhammad Asif Sindh won bronze medals.
