KARACHI: Pakistan cricket chiefs said on Saturday they would allow one-day captain Shahid Afridi and coach Waqar Younis to appear at a hearing into spot-fixing allegations in Doha during the coming week.

The decision was taken after the International Cricket Council requested the appearance of the two men at the hearing.

“The ICC has requested the PCB to direct Afridi and Waqar to appear before the ICC anti-corruption tribunal to determine the guilt or otherwise of the three players who have been accused of serious violations,” a Pakistan Cricket Board press release said.

The three players -- Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer -- were suspended by the ICC in September on spot-fixing charges relating to the Lord's Test against England a month earlier.

The trio are to appear before the tribunal in Doha from January 6-11.

The statement said the PCB had decided to allow Afridi and Waqar to appear as witnesses either in person or through a teleconference depending on their convenience and subject to their professional commitments.

“The PCB is also keen to assist the ICC anti-corruption tribunal in determining in a fair and just manner the truth behind the serious allegations being made against the three Pakistan players,” the release added.

Mohammad Asif has brought so much negativeness to Pakistan and PCB that I am sure he qualifies for a career in politics. Salman Butt was great but if he is the ringleader make an example out of him. Mohammed Amir is the only one that should be reinstated as he is a rookie and was caught up, its the same as a kid coming into school and doing what everyone else is doing to fit in and be accepted.

Dear brothers, Why is pakistan team getting so worst? They are creating problems to themselves. I dont think ICC has the powers to do something unless PCB agrees but i definitely know that PCB to save pakistan cricket has given suo moto powers to ICC to take any decision

i'm surprised why our board hasn't taken a confident stance on the three players in question. if their guilt has not yet been proven, then this will not be the first time a player has been accused. but these three players have been forced out of the team for the last few months on charges that have not yet been proven, and it has evidently been bad for the team. conversely, if they are proven guilty, then i would completely understand a harsh lesson, for the good of the game. but these players should have been dealt with as players, until proven criminals. i wont hesitate to say that if these were australian or south african cricketers, the protocol would have been different at icc's end, since the matter is quite subjective and still unclear to many. in any case, it was and still in pcb's responsibility to safeguard the reputation of the players and the interest of the team.

There should not be any reprieve for the three accused. The PCB and the players should get the maximum punishment prescribed under the ICC Regulations. It seems the PCB got a nice sounding, that's why one does read much about it's shenenigans nowadays. Now whether a player is young or old, he is given a briefing on how to conform to the general pattern of good moral and ethical conduct. If not, then common sense should prevail. Keeping aside philosophizing, since common sense is so ubiquitously uncommon, they should be taught a lesson. Salams and best wishes for 2011.

Whenever PAK team plays honestly, they are un-beatable. Just see two matches 3rd. match of each series, which after loosing series, where they completely outclassed the teams who had already beaten them in two earlier matches in each series. The last won record breaking win in a T20 by more than 100 runs
