SUKKUR, Jan 6: The Taluka Municipal Administration (TMA), Sukkur city, removed encroachments from Shalimar road with the help of heavy machinery and uprooted cabins fixed illegally adjacent to Mir Masoom Shah Municipal Library.
The drive against encroachments was jointly supervised by the Administrator of the TMA Sukkur City, Abdul Shakoor Mahar and Taxation Officer Agha Mutahir.
Owners of the cabins initially resisted the move due to which flow of traffic between Sukkur and Rohri remained suspended for half an hour.
The operation continued despite intervention by some of the elected representatives. The land grant staff, however, continued their work and removed cabins by using heavy machinery. Police, who were assisting the staff, took some people into custody and released them after completion of the operation.
Talking to journalists, cabin owners accused the TMA authorities of removing their cabins without any prior notice.
The administrator of the TMA told journalists that their staff had been facing difficulties to clean drains due to these cabins adding that “we have already asked them to remove encroachments voluntarily but they refused due to which this action was initiated. Two die:
Two people died and 11 others received injuries as a result of accident between wagon and a passenger bus on the National Highway between Mahaisero and Dadloi near Pano Akil on Thursday.
The bus was heading to Rahimyarkhan from Sukkur while the wagon was coming from Ghotki to Sukkur. The accident took place between Mahaisero and Dadloi due to heavy fog.
As a result, wagon driver Naeem Kori along with Rafiq Soomro, died on the spot while 11 passengers, including Shah Nawaz, Mohammad Ali, Imtiaz, Muneer, Waheed, Mushtaque, Fayaz, Ghulam Mohammad, Zahid, Shabbir and Qasim received injuries. The coach driver fled from the scene. No case could be registered due to Dadloi and Mahaisero police officials' dispute over the jurisdiction.
