GILGIT, Jan 8: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has removed a sub-divisional officer of public works department from the position of administrator of Gilgit-Baltistan House in Islamabad and replaced him with an officer of District Management Service.
Shah Jahan, an assistant executive engineer of the public works department was appointed as administrator of the Gilgit-Baltistan House, adjacent to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in Islamabad, but during his tenure spanning over more than two decades house affairs went from bad to worse. An officer of DMS Waqar Mir has replaced him.Shah Jahan was awarded extension twice after his retirement for reasons best known to those at the helm despite severe reservations of the political leadership of the region.
The administration sources told Dawn on Saturday that the step was taken after fingers were pointed towards alleged corruption and mismanagement in the affairs of the House.
The Gilgit-Baltistan House primarily offers accommodation to the lawmakers and senior officials of the region whenever they are in the federal capital.—Correspondent
