KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate of PaCCS has unearthed a scam involving clearance of commercial goods under the guise of donations for charity.

The customs authorities after carrying out investigations have discovered that one Mubarak Masih registered a fake charitable institution namely M/s Rescue Human Rights Association International Karachi and got cleared a large number of consignments under its cover.

Most of these consignments comprised luxury commercial goods like decorative wall paper, luxury suiting fabric, sanitary fittings, whey powder, plastic sheets, rubber flooring, baby diapers, blankets etc., claiming the same as donations for charity.

The customs investigators approached Pakistani Embassy in Beijing for verification of donors and status of the consignments. The embassy confirmed that the addresses and telephone numbers of the shippers given on invoices were incorrect.

Additionally, the sources said, the Chinese customs authorities also confirmed that these consignments were not donations but commercial ones which were cleared after due financial transactions.

After thorough investigations and confirmations sought from the Chinese customs, An FIR has now been lodged against Mubarak Masih of M/s Rescue Human Rights Association International, Karachi, Moazzam Bhatti, Muhammad Ashraf and Taimoor Ashraf of M/s Bed & Blanket (Pvt) Ltd 32-E, Empress Road, Lahore and efforts were afoot to apprehend the culprits, says a press release.
