LAHORE: The appointment of Rana Zahid as Director General National Accountability Bureau Punjab was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday, DawnNews reported.

A petition, filed by Azhar Siddique, stated that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the government to remove contract employees and therefore Zahid's appointment was a violation of the apex court's ruling.

The petitioner requested the court to direct the government to remove Zahid from the position of DG NAB Punjab.

On January 27, the Supreme Court had asked the government to take steps to reverse re-appointments on contract at the senior level in police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Moreover, the court had asked the federal and provincial governments to ensure that re-employments or employments on a contract basis were not made in violation of the law.
