HYDERABAD, March 12: Former senator and PML-F leader Zulfiqar Ali Shah Jamote was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Matiari on Saturday.

He had died in a Karachi private hospital on Friday. He was 69.

He leaves behind two sons — former district nazim of Matiari Mohammad Ali Shah Jamote and Matiari district PML-F president Taimoor Ali Shah Jamote, and a daughter.

Shops in Matiari, Oderolal station, Tajpur, Allah Dino Saand and Shahpur Chakar remained closed to mourn the death of Zulfiqar Ali Shah.

Thousands of people attended his funeral prayers, led by Mufti Mohammad Raheem Sikandari. Prominent among them were State Minister for Railways Faqir Jadam Mangrio, Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Jam Madad Ali, Speaker of Balochistan Assembly Saleh Bhotani, PML-F provincial president Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashidi, his brother Raja Sain, provincial adviser Imtiaz Shaikh, provincial minister Akhtar Jadoon, Hussain Haroon, former speaker of National Assembly Illahi Bux Soomro, Malik Asad Sikandar, Shafqat Ali Shah Shirazi, former federal minister Nisar Memon, Jamil Bugti, son of late Nawab Akbar Bugti, Sindh United Party leader Jalal Mehmood Shah, Asad Junejo and Nawab Rashid Ali Khan.

Zulfiqar Ali Shah was a friend of Pir Pagara, the spiritual leader of the Hur Jamaat and chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-F. He had played a leading role in the creation of Matiari district.
