ATTOCK, March 18: Two students were killed and three others received serious injuries as the boundary wall of the Government Primary School, Ababakar village, Hazro collapsed on Friday.

The sources said that the students were busy in construction activities with the labourers near the under-construction boundary wall during the study hours on Friday morning when the wall suddenly collapsed on them.

Resultantly, two students Saad Nawaz of class III and Nayyab Bibi of class prep died on the spot while three others — Asma, Ibrahim and Zubair — sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the local hospital.

Soon after the incident, the staff of the school escaped from the scene. However, on information, officials of district administration, police and education department including district coordination officer (DCO) reached the scene.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased and injured students and local villagers also gathered there and blamed the school administration for the tragic incident as the minor students were engaged in the construction work instead of teaching them, the sources added.

Later, the funeral prayers of the deceased were attended by religious and political personalities and a large of people of the area.

While talking to the local newsmen, former state minister Malik Amin Aslam expressed his great shock over the incident.

He asked the government and district administration to initiate inquiry into the incident so that appropriate action might be taken against the responsible officials. He also expressed sympathy with the parents of the deceased students.

When contacted, District Coordination Officer Shakeel Ahmed expressed great sorrow over the incident and said that it was occurred due to the negligence of the school staff.

He said that all the four teachers and the headmaster had been suspended while he also directed the executive district officer (education) to initiate departmental inquiry for further action against the responsible officials.
