RAWALPINDI, April 4: Two senior officers of Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) have obtained pre-arrest bail in the case of drag race in Bahria Town last December.

Lubna Jahangir and Mohammad Ali Khan, both general managers, got interim bail till April 12 from the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Aurangzeb. They also submitted surety bonds of Rs50, 000 each.

Earlier, the two managers moved the court on March 25 and obtained bail till April 4 after Deputy Inspector General Mubashirullah, who is investigating the drag car race in which five spectators were killed, told the Supreme Court that PTCL and Pakistan State Oil sponsored the event.

On Monday, Rawat police did not submit the relevant record of the case to oppose the bail plea. In their application, the PTCL general managers maintained that the company did not provide any financial or management support to the Hyper Performance Racing Association (HPRA), which organised the race without the permission of Rawalpindi administration in Phase-VIII of Bahria Town.

They said the company only marketed one of its products at the event after Atif Sheikh, chief executive officer of HPRA, assured them that all necessary measures to protect the drivers and spectators had been taken. —Our Reporter
