LAHORE, April 4: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday hearing a petition challenging registration of cases against PCS officers for observing a strike remarked that the courts could not give relief to violators of law.

The chief justice regretted that all sections of society were now resorting to strikes to get their demands accepted.

Muhammad Naeem Ghaus and others filed the petition through Advocate Asghar Ali Gill, also Lahore High Court Bar Association president, and pleaded that 'fake' cases were registered against the officers. Mr Gill argued that the PSC officers were protesting for the acceptance of their legitimate rights and demands, therefore, they neither violated the Constitution nor indulged in any anti-state activity.

He said the PCS officers had been targeted and victimised and the cases against them were liable to be dismissed.

The CJ summoned investigating officer for April 22 along with complete record of the cases. However, he observed, “The PCS officers by observing strikes and holding protests took law into their hands and do not deserve relief on merit.”

Around 150 PCS officers were booked last month on the charges of instigating others to protest, distribution of provocative pamphlets etc. The FIR was lodged by a DSP. Later the officers were allowed bails. NAB DG appointment:

The Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice to the federal government on an application requesting the court to restrain NAB's Punjab director-general Rana Zahid Mahmood from working till the decision of a case pending against his appointment.

Shah Faisal Qureshi filed the application through his counsel, Azhar Siddique, in his already pending writ petition against the appointment of Zahid Mahmood.

The division bench after hearing the contentions issued the notice and sought a reply from the government by April 11.

The petitioner submitted that the respondent DG was committing illegalities during the pendency of the main case. The applicant is an affectee of the Kanal Motors reference being heard by an accountability court.

He expressed apprehensions that the DG might take any illegal action against him for challenging his appointment, therefore, Zahid Mahmood should be restrained from holding the NAB DG office till the final decision of the court.
