CHAKWAL, April 7: Two convicted murderers were awarded capital punishment while one of their accomplices sentenced to life imprisonment, sources told Dawn on Thursday.

The convicts Noor Khan, Muhammad Akram, Shair Altaf, Khan Baig, Nizakat Hussain and Muhammad Jhangir, residents of

Dhok Larri murdered Muhammad Aslam with an axe and injured Muhammad Ashraf and Shair Jang on December 31, 2006 over a land dispute.

On Thursday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Nisar Baig while giving the verdict sentenced Noor Khan and Muhammad Akram to death.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on both the culprits. The court also sentenced Shair Altaf to life imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs100,000 on him. Nizakat Hussain was jailed for two years with a fine of ten thousand rupees while Khan Baig and Muhammad Jhangir were imprisoned for six months with a fine of five thousand rupees. —Correspondent
