KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Team captain Shahid Afridi on Sunday said that the possibility of bringing in a foreign batting coach would be considered if Javed Miandad was unavailable to fill the role for the national team.
Giving the inauguration speech at Karachi’s Boom Boom Cricket Stadium, Afridi said that he will try to learn from his previous mistakes in order to improve and try to give the team some stability.
He said the team picked for the West Indies tour consists of fresh players and it will present a great opportunity to Pakistan to assess its future prospects.
Afridi said that the team would try its best to achieve a good result, but admitted that a lot of hard work was needed to improve the team’s fielding.

To achieve optimal results, the team has to learn a cool-headed discipline through a thorough trainging in all the branches of the game: batting, bowling, fielding and wicket-keeping.

I think afridi or the other pakistani cricketers doesn't deserve all this fame after their poor show in the worldcup and against india even the lowest ranked team had not dropped those much catches as they did

Foreign teams ought to hire our past stars as batting coaches.
Pakistan must have a Pakistani coach.
There is no other option.

I just can not understand the attitude of Javed Miandad. He earns 9 Lakhs a month working as Director General of PCB yet he is not willing to take up a role that suits him, keeping in mind his past achievements and his batting credentials.
There is no need to pay million of dollars to foreign coaches for something that Pakistanis themselves can do. Why can we not contact former players like Amir Sohail, Ramiz Raja or Inzamam, they read the game well and can do a decent job from my point of view.

PCB should consider Afridi's proposal to appoint a batting coach as well as a fielding coach.Meanwhile I advise Mr.Salman Butt not to issue statements regarding cricket as he has lost that right. He should permenantly join the world of bookies and use his experience there.

First, Pak does need a batting coach. I think you have Zaheer Abbas, Inzamam and Miandad. Three of the best of all time Pak batsmen available to work with them. Dont hire foreign coaches, but also which coach will agree to live in Pakistan? Fielding issue needs to be addressesed at the domestic level cricket in Pakistan.

I feel and as stated before, professional players don't need coaches. You can coach youngsters to a certain age but not men.
Any professional/International cricketer should work on the basics of batting, and keep the batting simple. That is the only way forward for success. Adaptability to play in all conditions and perform is a true testament for any international cricketer. Cricketing loving nation and authorities should wise up and act accordingly. Javed Miandad will agreew with my thoughts.

It is interesting and surprising that Afridi talks as if he is the chairman of PCB. Since when it is a captain's place to discuss selection or hiring of a coach. Afridi does not even want to play test matches. So why he even bothers to get involved in the matter that actually is not his business?

I definitely agree that the pakistan cricket team needs a batting coach, as well as a fielding coach. The coach has to be strict with the players to bring them upto the standard.
I would also request the PCB to kindly instruct the coach to see that our captain Afridi takes active part in btting as that is his weak point. Otherwise he is a fantastic bowler as well as a fielder but lacks in batting specially when the crowd shouts out BOOM BOOM AFRIDI and he forgets everything and stearts to hit out and is OUT with hardly any runs made by him.

I think actually Pakistan Cricket Team badly required a well Planner. The team management and the players are very weak in proper planning. Besides, proper planning, the team desperately need a well trained professional Psychologist, who will make the players mentally tough and will build in the them the self believe which they are lacking since last one decade.

I think Shahid is right may be Javed don't want to be a Coach. We dire need of a Good Coach for Batting. Now question will be if PCB allow that coach with the Team Captain to select a Team. Selecting Team is not a PCB Selector's Job. Selectors suppose to gather information/ Results from the Coach and make a Team. Making a Team is not an easy Job. Look at IPL, even though there are a lot of Foreign Players But Indian Selectors put some new Blood in those Teams to see who are good. As they play with a bunch of Great Players. In Pakistan we have Quaid-e-azam trophy. I have been seeing this Tournament since I was 5 yrs old. We need new type of Tournaments. Which will allow local and provisional to play, also include Pak. Team and Under 19 Team players too. Remember Pakistani Team found few good players from the street. Example; Javed minadad and Wasim Akram etc.. Just imagine if a system where PCB can see everyone and select a Great Team........Just Hoping......
