Tarok Kalache, a village in the Arghandab Valley of Afghanistan, was destroyed by US war planes on October 6, 2010, after US Army commanders determined it was being used as a base for operations by Taliban fighters. Soldiers on patrol stayed off the roads and cut through grape fields and pomegranate orchards in an effort to avoid lethal missteps. In just one four-day period of intense fighting, three men died and 20 were injured.
The US government is now paying for the rebuilding of this village and two others that were also hit by the US air strikes. – Photos by Reuters
