ISLAMABAD, April 21: Around 28 inspectors and sub-inspectors of Islamabad police have been appointed as community police officers (CPOs) who will work with the local community to control crime and curb activities of anti-social elements.

Under the new system, community police centres will be established where beat books and visitors books would be maintained.

He said the system would play an effective role in mounting intelligence and vigilance at the grass-roots level besides curbing criminal activities.

He said the local residents and complainants would easily interact with the police officers in their areas.

The IGP said proper facilities would be provided to the CPOs while the number of patrolling vehicles would also be increased to effectively control crime.

He said the capital police would be made a corruption-free and people-friendly institution.

The IGP asked the police officials to improve their performance which should be the reason to ask the government for resources.

He said sense of responsibility was the basic factor to ensure effective policing and this can only be inculcated among the personnel by providing them more facilities.

For this purpose, he added, duty timing of policemen had been reduced from 12 to 8 hours.
