KARACHI: The energy shortfall in the country has risen to 5,000 megawatts, DawnNews reported on Friday.

Speaking to DawnNews, DG PEPCO Mohammad Khalid said that the duration of loadshedding in major cities is between five to eight hours while in rural areas the duration is 10 to 12 hours.

Industries have suffered due to the rise in loadshedding while over in Balochistan the duration of loadshedding is 18 hours.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Water and Power Naveed Qamar has informed the National Assembly that loadshedding cannot be eliminated this year but they are making efforts to decrease the duration during in the summer.
