LAHORE: Army clinched the first-ever Inter-departmental Rugby Tournament, held at the DHA Rugby Ground here on Sunday after an exciting contest.

Army beat Wapda 19-12 with only a converted try difference between the two sides in the end.

M. Ashraf was the Servis Man of the Match for his twin trike in the final. Ashraf is also the coach of the Army team.

The chief guest at the final was President of Punjab Rugby, Major General Ashraf Chaudhry.

The tournament was held to give experience to the players in the 15s Rugby — a much more demanding game compared to the 7-a-side version which the Pakistan rugby is practising.

The final also served as a talent hunt for the national team. The tournament also served as the basis for selection of the national team camp which will now take place every weekend till the national team's departure for Indonesia in June.
