Very colourful indeed. I live in pakistan and didn't know about the temple's existence....would make for great journey and experience indeed. The tradition and history of our Hindu brothers should be highlighted more for everyone!

Thanks a lot dear The Dawn. We here in Maharashtra visit HinglajMata's temple located at Gadhinglaj.If possible I would like to visit the temple in Balochistan.

I have been going in this area for past 20 years hunting Ibex.I have visited the temple and collected water for our trip.Now it is very easy to go there as new road is built from Karachi.It is very peaceful and worth visiting.It use to take us five hours,now it is about two hours.It is very hot in summer,spring and fall is better.You can camp there for a night or two.Hindu devotees feel very safe in this area of Baluchistan.I have fond memories living with my hindu neighbours in Hyderabad before partition.

I've been there and this place is more stunning then it looks in the pictures.

Media Gallery coverage is always very good and especially this one .There was also one painting done by school Girls which depicated dancing Radha Krishna .That school was probably in Baluchistan and was opened recently after it was destroyed .

My grandfather came from Karachi and it is a fact that most of the bussinesses were owned by Hindus in 1947 which became our nemesis as the mohajirs from India were given a free hand to loot and forcibly occupy our properties while he have-nots amng Hindus were rarely touched. Before independence Shivratri was a major festival in Karachi and the posh Clifton had a famous Shiva temple where thousands thronged. The Hinglaj Temple is extremely important as a spiritual journey. The essence is captured in the immortal classic movie of the 50s ' Maruteerth Hinglaj' first made in Bengali with some great devotional music by Hemant Kumar. The music and the theme was later adopted in the Hollywood movie Herman Hesse's ' Siddhartha'. This heritage belongs to Pakistan as well as all others. Truly, temple breakers like Mahmud of Ghazni or Aurangzeb cannot be role models for a nation like Pakistan.

Thanks to Dawn publication,I could get a glimpse of Pilgrimage to Mata Sati temple in Balochistan.I would like to suggest that if Pakistan tourism ministry can properly identify, advertise and do marketing for tourism at these places in Pakistan sacred to Hindus,in Indian newspapers ,TV channels, etc,it will open a surge of tourists from India.Today in India, thousands of people go to Bangkok,Singapore,Indonesia, in the holiday season .Going to Pakistan will be much cheaper if one compares tourist holiday packages

It shows how religious every person is regardless of which God they believe in. We do miss picutre of the temple itself. I would appreciate if Dawn can show us the many historic places we never knew existed in Pakistan.

Well 26% of India's 1.2 billion are muslims, India had 2 presidents who were muslim's and they had several sportsmen who captained India who were muslims and many in bollywood are muslims whilst Indians have highest degree of tolerence to various other religions it is missing in muslims in Pakistan. High time its not too late pakistan should denounce hatred and develop tolerence and show respect to all other religions. Credit to "Dawn" for its first step towards the journey of peace and Tolerence of faith.

This entirely depends upon how much the general public in India can accommodate the difference between facts and fiction about Pakistan.

If only Dr. Sharma was less ignorant and more aware of the world around him, he would find that the Dawn's standard of journalism is way better than that of popular English websnews sites and newspapers in India, like Times of India or the Hindustan Times, anyday. Only the Hindu is perhaps comparable. You will not find in Dawn the kind of lazy solipsism, pompous, and patronizing attitude towards other countries in the region, and reactionary sabre-rattling so typical of mainstream Indian news portals. Dr. Sharma's comment reflects the same grating tone. I would suggest that he read the Dawn more regularly for objective reportage and fearless criticism of the state, of neoliberal globalization, of sectarian violence, and communalism. Oh, did I forget to mention that I am an Indian?

I think a friend of mine recently visited a similar looking temple and sent pictures. He called it a Nani Mandir though.

Long back I had read an article by Tarun Vijay on Hinglaj Temple. This is one of 52 Shakti pithas of Hindus, scattred in India, bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal. A good picture indeed and DAWN deserves thanks. Ajay kumar ladkani

Great Work Dawn showing pictures of Temples and Hindu Pilgrims. Just like one of the fellow commenters i did not know such a temple existed in far away province of Balochistan. The Happiness expressed in the photos by Pilgrims brings goose bumps. I think if it were not for the radical elements, there could be total peace in this subcontinent. I would love to visit Pakistan and particularly these temples some day. Hope it comes true.

I saw people looking for the pictures of the temple as well, you can go to offroadpakistan.com and see pictures on hingol. For many years I have visited Hinglaj mata and paid my respects, although I am a Muslim but what fills my heart with joy is the harmony in our communities and I wish we strengthen it further. Peace for every one.

Hello Friends, I am a regular reader of dawn.Especially its opinions column . In fact I am more regular to read this than my pakistani colleagues in my office in London :) This is not the first time I have seen pictures or articles like this. Dawn has a class which stands above the taboo of religion,caste and nationality. I have been reading its sections from quite some time and got glued to it as time passed by. Good work Dawn.

Hinglaj temple at Hingol in Baluchistan is in fact a very holy site - its one of the most important shakti peeths in Hinduism

I plan to visit this holy site during my visit to Pakistan in July this year
