ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Environment and Women Development Samina Khalid Ghurki on Tuesday, in principle, approved the draft of Climate Change Policy.
She approved the policy while chairing Core Group Meeting on Climate Change held here.
Samina Ghurki said that Pakistan was the most vulnerable country due to global warming and climate change and was a low contributor of the pollution as well as the most affected country in the global community.
She said that it was the need of time to make comprehensive measures to meet the challenges of the global warming and climate change.
She said that Pakistan was facing extraordinary pressure of the worse impact of climate change. However, sustainable and long lasting plans of action and different projects had to be made to tackle these challenges.
She underlined that Ministry of Environment was taking serious initiatives in this regard.
She was of the view that the Climate Change Policy draft was a landmark initiative of the Ministry of Environment. She lauded the efforts of all Core Group Members who rendered their extraordinary services for this mission.
The Federal Minister expressed her deep commitment that the Ministry of Environment would leave no stone unturned to provide healthy and green environment to the coming generations.
Federal Secretary Environment Khawaja Muhammad Naeed said that Climate Change Policy Draft has been finalized after continuous consultation with all provinces and related stakeholders.
Their suggestions and proposals were taken in account and a draft has been made with national spirit.
