ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will send a70-member paralympic squad to the Summer Games 2011, a statement from the National Sports Director said on Friday.

Seventy athletes will be accompanied by 19 officials as Pakistan will compete in the June 20 to July 5 Summer Games in Athens.

“We will set up a training camp for the athletes next month,” National Sports Director Arshad Javaid said.

Pakistan will be represented in eight of the 21 disciplines at the paralympic games, including track and field, aquatics, badminton, basketball, bocce, cycling, football and table tennis.

“We are preparing a ‘unified football’ squad for the games, which includes special athletes and other footballers,” Javaid told the media.

“This strategy helps the special athletes improve their skills.”

Pakistan’s paralympic athletes have won several medals at the Paralympic Games and Asian Paralympic Games.
