KARACHI: Several parts of Karachi were shut and businesses were at a standstill on Tuesday, a day after scores of arson attacks and incidents of firing left dead at least five people, including a political activist, DawnNews reported.

More than 25 vehicles were also burnt out on Monday following the killing of a senior activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in yet another targeted attack.

On Tuesday, commuters were experiencing difficulties due to scarce public transport.

Tension initially gripped the city after MQM activist, Farooq Baig, who was a member of the MQM’s core Karachi Tanzimi Committee, was gunned down in Karachi's Landhi area.

Nearly a dozen people were also wounded in Monday's violence, police and witnesses said.

Moreover, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the city's deteriorating law and order situation and directed IG Sindh and CCPO Karachi to present a detailed report on the unrest.
