RAWALPINDI, May 3: A man killed his wife at her parents’ house in Rawalpindi on Tuesday and escaped, police said.

Salma Shaheen, 22, was married with Fawad Ali Shah a year ago and the couple settled in Peshawar. But the marriage did not work as six months later Shaheen returned to her parents’ home in Saddar, Rawalpindi. She had also filed a case for the dissolution of marriage.

On Tuesday, Fawad Shah came to his in-laws’ house apparently to settle the differences and take Shaheen back to Peshawar.

Quoting mother of Shaheen, police said her daughter was ready to end the court battle and go back to her husband’s home.

The mother told the police that as she went out to buy groceries, the couple again started quarrelling. She added that Fawad opened fire at her daughter and escaped. Shaheen was rushed to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where she underwent an operation but could not survive.

Meanwhile Saima Anwar, 22, committed suicide by taking excessive dose of pills in Hari Pura Mohallah on Tuesday night, police said.
