Indoctrinating themes promoted in textbooks

• A lesson for primary students: “Our country is Pakistan. Pakistan is a Muslim country. Here Muslims live. Who am I? I am a Muslim. I am a Pakistani”.

• The ideology of Pakistan be presented as an accepted reality, and should never be subjected to discussion or dispute.

• To develop a sense of love for the ideology of Pakistan, (students should be able to) demonstrate an appreciation of the ideology.

• (The students should) find pleasure in protecting the ideology of Pakistan.

• In the teaching material, no idea of separation between the worldly and the religious should be given. Rather all the material should be presented from Islamic point of view.

• (The students should) know that national culture is not the local culture or local customs, but that it means the culture the principles which are laid down by Islam.

• Hindus have always been the enemy of Islam.

• The religion of Hindus did not teach them good things… Hindus do not respect women… social evils of Hindu customs are dealt with at length.

• (Students must) recognise the importance of jihad… be aware of the blessings of jihad and must have yearning for jihad in their hearts.

• (Students) should make speeches on jihad and martyrdom.

• A feeling should be created among students that they have to be patriotic and life-sacrificing mujahids.

• (Curriculum document asking textbook writers) to include simple stories to prepare the students for jihad by glorifying the martyrs of Pakistan. (Students should be asked) to collect pictures of soldiers and war heroes.

• Lessons on military heroes from the recipients of Nishan-i-Haider to Mohammad bin Qasim, Mahmood Ghaznavi, Tipu Sultan, Muaz and Muavvaz, Khalid bin Waleed (RA), Saad bin Abi Waqas (RA), Nuruddin Zangi, etc.

• The creation of Bangladesh: “After the 1965 war, India conspired with the Hindus of Bengal and succeeded in spreading hate among Bengalis and finally attacked East Pakistan in December 1971, thus causing the break up between East and West Pakistan”.

• On partition: “While Muslims provided all kind of help to those wishing to leave Pakistan, the people of India committed cruelties against Muslims. They would attack buses, trucks and trains carrying Muslim refugees, and murdered and looted them”. — A.H.N.
