BUDAPEST, Hungary: The developers of products raging from titanium dental implants to a water purifier have been recognized with the 2011 European Inventor Awards.

Awards in five categories were presented by the European Patent Office.

Per-Ingvar Branemark of Sweden won the lifetime achievement prize for his pioneering work with titanium dental implants, while Jens Dall Bentzen of Denmark won an award for his low-emission furnace, which burns biofuels.

Two Belgians were awarded _ Ann Lambrechts for her innovative application of steel fibers in concrete and Christine Van Broeckhoven for her research into Alzheimer's disease.

Two US scientists, Ashok Gadgil and Vikas Garud, won for their invention of an inexpensive water purifier requiring only a 40 watt UV lamp.
