PESHAWAR, May 18: Two personnel of the Elite Force and Frontier Constabulary were killed and five injured when heavily armed men attacked a security post in Sango area near Peshawar in the small hours of Wednesday.

Sarband Police Station SHO Abid Khan said the attackers had tried to besiege the post but were repulsed and they took refuge in nearby vacant houses.

“According to sources, about 10 militants were killed and 15 injured in the fight,” the police officer said. Six of them were buried in Khyber Agency.

Constable Zahid Almas of the Elite Force and Laiq Shah of the Frontier Constabulary were killed and three constables and two FC personnel were injured. They were brought to the Lady Reading Hospital.

The SHO said the Manzoor Shaheed post, about 16km from Peshawar cantonment, was jointly manned by police and FC to stop militants from Bara tehsil from entering the city.
