ISLAMABAD: The 3-day National Symposium on biodiversity will be held from June 7-9 with an objective to discuss and highlight the biodiversity issues in the country.

Main objective is to mark the “International Biodiversity Decade” as declared by the United Nations to create awareness on the importance of biodiversity upon which the survival of future generations depends, said Director General, Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH), Syed Azhar Hasan.

Dr. Hasan said over 100 bio-scientists from across the country will participate in the Symposium and read their research papers.

A limited number of posters have also been sought and top five posters will be published in the second volume of the book “Biodiversity of Pakistan”, the DG said.

He maintained that themes for papers and posters include conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, systematic/taxonomy, environmental biology, aquatic biology, mountain ecosystems and wildlife and fisheries.

The DG said being focal organization of biodiversity research, PMNH with the support of Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is striving to highlight and address biodiversity issues through different programs.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali will inaugurate the symposium.

MoST, PSF and PMNH are organizing the symposium.
