PESHAWAR. June 24: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has said that use of force is no permanent solution to any problem, adding that he is ready to talk to the militants who accept the writ of the government.

He expressed these views while addressing a representative jirga at the Chief Minister's House in Mardan on Friday.

On the occasion, ANP office-bearers including Engineer Abbass, Javed Khan, Shah Nawaz and Latif-ur-Rehman were also present. The chief minister said that their political opponents were levelling allegations that the present government had turned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a mess. However, he added, history was witness who had sown the seed of terrorism.

He said the government after coming into power adopted the course of negotiations for resolving the problem of insurgency, but its sincere efforts were intentionally foiled.

He said that they were ready to forget suicide attacks on Asfandyar Wali Khan, Afrasiab Khan Khattak, Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Mian Iftikhar Hussein, members of the provincial assembly, killing of the hundreds of party workers and huge financial losses, if the militants accepted the government writ and guaranteed that they would not disturb peace in the future.

However, he ruled out negotiations with those targeting innocent children, elders, women, mosques, funerals and tombs, saying the enemies of the religion and humanity would never be forgiven and fought till the last.

The chief minister said that Benazir Bhutto was killed in the same path while Maulana Fazlur Rehman was attacked twice and political activists were killed in targeted killings.

He urged all the political and religious parties to shun the practice of accusation and join hands for the sake of the integrity and protection of the country to eliminate the cancer of terrorism.

Hoti said that in a short period of three and a half years, the National Finance Commission was approved unanimously, the province received outstanding dues under the head of net hydel profit and achieved its identity under the 18th Constitutional Amendment, which were unprecedented successes of the provincial government.

On the occasion, the chief minister highlighted measures initiated for the progress and development of all the districts including Mardan.

He said that under the Tameer-i-Sarhad Programme, each member of the provincial assembly had been allocated a fund of Rs10 million, while they will get an additional fund of Rs20 million under the Tameer-i-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Programme. — APP
